Year-End Employers Summit · The Proud Bird · Tuesday, November 17, 2026 · 1:00–6:00 PM
Walk into 2027 knowing what changed — and what to do about it.
One afternoon with operators, HR leaders, and the Zaller Law Group team on the new California employment laws, the state of PAGA, and how growing businesses are navigating what comes next.
You don't need another stack of client alerts. You need answers.
Every January, California employers inherit a new set of rules. The ones who plan for them in November spend the year running their business instead of reacting to it.
- 01Which new laws take effect January 1 — and which ones touch my operations?
- 02Where does PAGA stand after the reforms, and what are courts and plaintiffs' firms doing now?
- 03What should go into my handbook, policies, and pay practices before the new year?
- 04How are other operators growing in — and beyond — California right now?
- 05What should I be watching for in 2027?
The program
Three panels. One afternoon. Built for the people running the business.
Speakers, panel topics, and the full schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
Operator spotlight
Growing a restaurant brand across the country
A conversation with a business operator about how they built and scaled the business nationally, and the issues facing restaurants as they grow in 2027.
Speaker to be announced
Owners, HR & operators
Operating in California: what's working now
Business owners, HR professionals, and operators on best practices, emerging trends, and how they are navigating the realities of doing business in California.

Year-end legal update
New laws for 2027, a PAGA update, and what to watch
Attorneys from Zaller Law Group walk through the new California employment laws taking effect, where PAGA stands today, and the issues employers should keep an eye on in the year ahead.

Then: the networking mixer
Close the afternoon with employers, HR leaders, and business owners from across Southern California.
The outcome
The goal isn't another briefing. It's a short list of what to do next.
By the time you head to the mixer, you should have a clear view of:
- The new laws that apply to your workforce, and when they take effect
- The policies, postings, and pay practices worth reviewing before January
- Where PAGA exposure tends to come from — and how employers are reducing it
- How peers are handling growth, staffing, and operations in California
- The questions to bring to your HR team, payroll provider, and counsel
This room is built for employers.
Owners, operators, and HR leaders responsible for people, pay, and compliance — with a strong showing from restaurants and hospitality.

Questions
Is there a cost to attend?
No. The summit is free to attend. Because space is limited, we ask that you request an invitation so we can hold a seat for you.
Why is it by invitation?
The room is intentionally small so the panels stay conversational and attendees have real time to connect. Requesting an invitation lets us hold a seat for you.
Can I bring someone from my team?
Yes. If someone on your team will own the follow-up — HR, payroll, or operations — bringing them can be especially useful. Each guest should request their own spot on Luma.
Is continuing education credit available?
Yes. HR recertification credit and MCLE credit will be available. Credit details will be shared with confirmed attendees.
I'm not in restaurants. Is this still relevant?
Yes. The legal update and PAGA discussion apply to California employers broadly, and the operator panels cover issues every growing business faces.

The useful question isn't "What changed?" It's "What do we change?"
That's what we'll spend the afternoon answering — together.
